Bringing Cake Design Into a Photography Setting

Soft tones, delicate mini cakes, and a sunlit Mediterranean backdrop — a fairytale vision that every bride dreams of.

This April, I was honoured to be invited to create cakes for the Ibiza Wedding Photography Workshop, hosted by Gypsy Westwood and planned by Bliss Ibiza Weddings & Events.

Gypsy is one of the most respected photographers on the island. Beyond her remarkable career, she is generous in sharing her knowledge and experience with others. 2023 marked the first edition of the workshop after the pandemic, and I felt truly grateful to Edyta for inviting me to be part of it.

Edyta has an incredible eye for design — everything she plans feels like art. I designed my cakes to match the colour palette she provided, filled with pastel tones, wild garden-style florals, and vintage crystal table décor.

When I first saw the setup, it felt like stepping into a dream — layers of glass, flowers, and soft light blending perfectly together.This is undoubtedly a design that is at the forefront of trends: "Wild garden Style" floral designs, pastel colours and vintage crystal table decor.

Mini Cakes for Luxury Weddings

At first, I planned to make a classic two- or three-tier wedding cake. But Edyta suggested creating a collection of mini cakes instead — and I loved that idea.

Mini cakes have become one of the most coolest wedding trends in recent years. While oversized statement cakes will always have their place, the opposite extreme — intentionally small, art-like cakes — offers a unique set of advantages.

They reduce waste, allow multiple creative directions within one cohesive theme, and visually blend into the overall styling rather than dominating it. This shoot is a perfect example:

Yet together they form a soft, immersive landscape that feels seamlessly integrated with the setting.

Each small piece allowed me to push the details further — combining buttercream piping and painting in soft, romantic tones. It’s a kind of luxury that only exists in styled shoots, where creativity has no limits.

Whenever I work with wedding couples, one of the first things I ask about is their floral direction. If the florist has sample arrangements or reference photos, I always request them. Flowers set the visual tone of the entire celebration, and having a clear sense of their style allows me to design cakes that feel truly integrated with the overall aesthetic. This is especially important for buttercream piping and handcrafted sugar flowers — the closer I can mirror the color language, texture, and movement of the floral design, the more harmonious and intentional the final presentation becomes.
